How does someone go from being an introvert to becoming one of the most well-known experts in the nursing podcast space?
Amelia Roberts has done this and more.
As the host of The Business of Nursing, Amelia is committed to giving those in the nursing industry and health professionals a voice.
Her passion to learn as much as possible from those who came before her made her the perfect host for her own podcast show. Instead of trying to figure the business of nursing out on her own, she went to experts and asked them about their experience.
What started as casual conversations turned into episodes for her podcast which launched in 2017.
The Business of Nursing is a very niched show. However, Amelia does interview experts outside of nursing. Whether it be an accountant who can teach ways for nurses to protect their assets, online marketers who have an important lesson to share, or longstanding health professionals who love sharing their experience, her guests are as diverse as they are passionate.
What She Looks for In Guests
•Somebody to serve her audience
•An expert who is very clear that her show is targeted to those in the nursing and healthcare industries
•Someone who knows the industry
•An expert who can bring a different perspective to healthcare
•Those who can give actionable, valuable advice to nurses
Her mission is to elevate the voices of nurses. When people approach her about being on the show and it’s evident they have not done their homework, she is likely not to have them on. The main thing she looks for is someone who has a twist that is applicable to her audience.
Best Advice to Those Want to Start A Podcast
Start by being a guest on other people’s podcasts. This allows you to see best practices and learn from those who are seasoned at podcasting. Another insight is to always lead with “what’s in it for the host and their audience.”
And finally, lead with curiosity. Be curious.
•What are they interested in?
•What do they need?
•What do they have?
